Description
Sand Lake is an artificial lake created by building a dam on the James River. The surface area of Sand Lake Reservoir varies depending on the season and flood conditions, but it generally covers several thousand hectares. Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge is known for its rich bird life. Numerous species of migratory birds can be seen here, including ducks, geese, herons, and various types of marsh birds. Several species of fish can be found in the lake, including bass and carp. Around the lake, there is a mix of wetland and grassland habitats that provide shelter for numerous species of wildlife. Hunting and Fishing: Sand Lake Reservoir and the surrounding areas are popular destinations for hunting and fishing. Hunting migratory birds is particularly popular.
